Tim Gardner: new works

Door

Uittreksel

The Canadian painter Tim Gardner established his international reputation with his first solo exhibition at the 303 Gallery, New York, in 2001. His compelling gift for identifying resonant images from contemporary life, along with a rare mastery of watercolour and pastel technique, led to an invitation to spend time at the National Gallery, London, where he immersed himself in the collection in 2005. The 20 watercolours and pastels in this book arise from this confrontation, where Gardner's works do not explicitly acknowledge Old Master sources but everywhere are informed by them. With these paintings, at once deeply personal and coolly appraising, he has extended the range and resonance of his singular art.
