Special feature, National treasure 'Nachi Waterfall': after the Shōwa conservation
Uittreksel
"[This issue] is dedicated to the presentations and discussions from the symposium Kokuhō "Nachi no Taku zu"--Shōwa no shūri o oete (After the Shōwa Conservation of National Treasure 'Nachi Waterfall') held on December 14th, 1991 during the special exhibition Nachi no Taki--Kumano no shizen to shinkō no zōkei (Nachi Waterfall: Nature and Arts of Worship at Kumano) which showed from November 16th to December 15th. The motivation behind the exhibition and symposium concerning the national treasure 'Nachi Waterfall' in our collection was its loan to Sangaku shinkō no ihō (Treasures of Mountain Worship), the ninetieth anniversary special exhibition held at the Nara National Museum in 1985, and the decision to conduct a full-scale conservation after its showing. Beginning with the preliminary examination of the painting conducted during the Nara exhibition, the direction of the conservation was explored from a variety of perspectives. As a result, an executive committee to oversee the conservation was established, and the repair project began from April of 1988 and was completed in March of 1990"-- Editorial foreword (page 96).
