Sanyu: une philosophie de l'encre

Uittreksel

"The image of Sanyu (1895-1966) sketching figures at the Grande Chaumière or seated at a Parisian café terrace evokes the sense of an artist in the making. A vibrant, precise stroke is a natural extension of the gesture, or breath. Sanyu's choice of Chinese ink serves as a reminder of his origins; his fluid line and masterful brushwork reveal his schooling in traditional Chinese calligraphy. Yet, although well-versed in ink, sometimes blended with charcoal, his creativity emerged from the confluence of two worlds. Like Sanyu himself, the ancient medium of ink transcends time and borders. Artists Marine Oussedik and Atiq Rahimi, who both work with Chinese ink, articulate the significance of the gesture, the flow and the poetry in their practice"-- On back of cover.
