Paper and colour: dyes and dyeing around the world

    Paper and color

Uittreksel

"'Natural dyeing' is a phrase that one finds often tossed around in conversation relating to the textile traditions in India, and even though one sees historical examples of books with coloured papers, the information on how those colours were attained left much to be desired. Over the past few years, I have experimented with ways to colour my paper and pulp with natural materials, took workshops and talked with other papermakers about their methods and techniques. Everyone had their own favourite method of adding colour to paper, and a recipe that worked for them to give them the results they wanted. [...] I was especially interested in focusing on historical dyeing traditions of non-Eurocentric countries, as well as contributions from practitioners who had come up with adapted methods and recipes they used for their own work. [...] The essays in this book outline historical processes and contemporary techniques, which are followed by a collection of recipes for those eager to put these methods into practice."-- Radha Pandey, editor's preface.
