Modern materials and practice in gilding conservation
Door
Uittreksel
"This paper presents three case studies to illustrate how accepted principles can be applied conscientiously and creatively in the conservation and restoration of gilded wooden artifacts. The case studies comprise picture frames and a gold ground painting. An 18th-century French picture frame is presented first, involving overpaint removal from water gilding and minor retouching. The second case study shows the conservation, research, and restoration of a pair of carved frames in the 17th-century Dutch auricular style. The third case study highlights the treatment of the gold ground sky on a 14th-century Italian panel painting by Lorenzo Monaco"--Abstract.
