Door
Uittreksel
"This book surveys a series of photographic images, titled Indifferent West, by artist Daniel Mirer. The series represents a 30-year period in which Mirer has been journeying into the arid lands of the southwestern United States, and rendering its ironic world of dystopian landscapes, stamped with surreal elements and remnants of architecture, industry, and human habitation. The book, edited by Jorge Daniel Torres de Veneciano, contains an introduction by Rebecca Hackemann, an interview with the artist by Winke Wiegersma, and interpretive essays by Veneciano. The essays provide intellectual-historical context, engaging the work of Jean Baudrillard, Dante, and Søren Kierkegaard. Plates are organized in two sections: Sands and Simulacra, and Dantesque Deserts. Subsections in the first include themes such as The Ironic Surreal, Cutout Cowboys, and Lady Luck; in the second section, The Pathos of Desert Pools and The Apocalyptic Sublime"--
