Ellen Keys vänstra öga: om karikatyren i Sverige
Door
Uittreksel
The art of caricature has a long and content-rich history both here in the country and internationally. In this generously and often drastically illustrated volume, Lena Johannesson gives an insightful account of the caricature's meaning and expression from the 18th century until now. She deals with the face as a joke, the beautiful and the ugly, family secrets and self-deprecation. Although this art form is dying out in today's Sweden, it has a stronger position in other countries, such as in France. It has mostly been the daily newspapers that have brought up the art of caricature; now it is looking for other ways. 'Ellen Key's left eye' is like a parallel story to the general story. Here, the secret and hopeless are mirrored, as are the manipulations of power. The shadows are highlighted in the light, the dominance of men's clubs and gender roles are reflected. The book is the first serious attempt to create an overview of the history and historiography of the Swedish caricature.
