- The second facsimile section contains reproductions of the plates title page, and plates I-XIV of first sequence of plates, from the first Latin edition of part 9 of De Bry's "America" (Frankfurt, 1602, issued by Theodor de Bry's widow and sons). For full description of corresponding complete original edition of part 9, see Church, E.D. Catalogue of books relating to the discovery and early history of North and South America, entry 168. The selection of engravings reproduced in this volume is related to the Latin version of José de Acosta's "Historia natural y moral de las Indias" which constituted the first portion of text in the original edition.
- A prior volume containing reproductions of plates from parts 4 and 5 of Theodor de Bry's "America" was issued by Van Hoeve in 1979 under title: De ontdekking van de Nieuwe Wereld = The discovery of the New World = La découverte du Nouveau Monde.
