Abstract
"Each year ... the whole Kyoto is immersed in the mood for the Gion Festival. When it comes to the festival, 'yamaboko junkō', or the procession of floats, recurs to the mind immediately. Yet, what cannot be forgotten is the 'byōbu matsuri', the display of folding screens. During the 'yoiyama' period, several evenings before the procession, the local communities proudly display their family treasures in 'misenoma' ... In this issue, we are pleased to present you a pair of folding screens of scenes from Gion and Sanja Festivals."--Page 4.
