Abstract

Visual artist Arianne Olthaar (NL, 1970) portrays and documents disappearing, hidden and fictional interiors in film, photography and miniature models. Her work has been shown internationally at several exhibitions and film festivals including International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, EMAF, New York Film Festival, Videoex, Media City Film Festival, IFFR, Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin. Between 2008 and 2012, Olthaar visited a number of former state and luxury hotels in Central and Eastern Europe designed in the 1970s and 1980s. She photographed the interiors with a Voigtländer Bessa L analogue camera. For this publication 'The File on D.', at her invitation, Dutch writer Arnon Grunberg wrote a story that could have been set in one of these spaces. Arnon Grunberg (NL, 1971) is a Dutch literary writer of mainly novels, stories, essays, reports and columns.
