Showcasing the great diversity to be found in contemporary art, both in Norway and abroad, this catalogue presents 150 highlights from the National Museum's collection of art from 1945 to the present. The selection includes Hannah Ryggen's politically engaged tapestries, Jakob Weidemann;s abstract depictions of nature, Louise Bourgeois's enigmatic Cell VIII, Kjartan Slettemark's much discussed picture from the Vietnam War, and Ilya Kabakov's permanent installation The Garbage Man (The Man Who Never Threw Anything Away). -- publisher's statement.
