- Stephen Shore's 1975 photograph "La Brea" depicting a Chevron station at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Beverly Boulevard constitutes the point of reference for the La Brea matrix project. Six German photographers have been invited to Los Angeles as part of an artist-in-residence program to reflect on Stephen Shore's s iconic picture. The La Brea matrix is comprised of three portfolios, the first (red) includes 31 photographs selected from the photographers' work produced prior to their stay in Los Angeles, the second (white) contains 30 photographs taken by the six photographers during their residency in Los Angeles, the third houses two photographs of La Brea Avenue taken by Stephen Shore on successive days in 1975 and printed in 2010. All the photographs are pigment prints, signed and numbered by the photographers. Produced in an edition of 30.
