Abstract

"For almost 300 years pocket-watch stands provided the nobility, the clergy and bourgeois society a stylish way to safeguard pocket watches. This publication features 843 objects from a south German private collection in a first overview of the entire genre of pocket-watch stands and documents their wealth of designs from the Baroque to the early twentieth century. In addition to the iconographic and iconological significance of the objects, Volume 1 recounts the painting techniques, as well as aspects regarding conservation and restoration, in German, English and French.
