Abstract

"This catalogue traces the history of 20th-century art through the periodical publications issued by the artists, critics, and champions of the avant-garde, including the principal documents of the 19th century in which the beliefs and ideals that were to become central to Modernism, were manifested for the first time. The catalogue does not pretend to contain a complete overview of all relevant, avant-garde periodicals. It is a short title list, describing a private collection of these magazines, collected in a period of over 30 years."--Introduction.
