Abstract

Owen Gump's photographs show the American West--the deserts of Nevada and the coast of California--not a place of pristine nature, rather as the result of numerous human interventions and transformations that today remain both seen and unseen. Their exact nature often remains a mystery: Gump's work depicts instead images of symbolic association and collective memory.
