Masterpieces from the Nezu Collection, new edition: the art of tea utensils
Abstract
"The newest catalogue, Masterpieces from the Nezu Collection, New Edition, will consist of twelve volumes, organized by field. The information in it will reflect recent research and will be presented in a straightforward, accessible manner. Since our concept is that the content of these volumes will be made available to the world as a digital archive, all the descriptions of works will be translated into English, another distinctive feature of this catalogue. Following our first volume, National Treasure and Important Cultural Property, this second volume, The Arts of Tea Utensils, introduces 280 works used as utensils for tea gatherings. The wide variety of works includes many historic meibutsu (distinguished works) that had been handed down in daimyō families. The focus is on the tea utensils collected by Nezu Kaichirō, Sr., who became conversant in the way of tea in his later years, that form the basis of the Nezu Museum's collection"-- Preface, Kōichi Nezu (page [e-3]).
