  • Alternate title

    Sculpture en héritage

Abstract

The City of Nancy and the Departmental Council of Meurthe-et-Moselle are joining forces to present a season devoted to 18th century sculpture in Lorraine. Two major exhibitions will be organized at the Château de Lunéville and at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. In Lunéville, the exhibition 'a sculpture in its castle' will be presented. It will highlight the importance of sculpture in the ducal residences of Lorraine, both through the representation of sovereigns and in the decoration of apartments and the ornamentation of the gardens. In Nancy, the exhibition 'The heritage sculpture. The Adam, a Lorraine dynasty 'will constitute the first retrospective devoted to this famous family of Nancy sculptors whose talent has radiated far beyond the borders of the duchies. An exceptional partnership with the Louvre Museum By lending around fifteen major works, the Louvre Museum takes an exceptional part in the exhibitions presented in Nancy and Lunéville. Guilhem Scherf, general heritage curator and assistant to the director of the Louvre Museum's Sculptures Department, takes part in their respective scientific commissions. Originally from Nancy, the Adam family is one of the most famous dynasties of French sculptors. Over three generations, its members deploy their talents in the service of the greatest patrons and participate in several important projects of the European 18th century. Trained in Lorraine in the context of the artistic development of the reigns of Dukes Léopold and Stanislas, its most illustrious representatives, the brothers Lambert Sigisbert, Nicolas Sébastien and François Gaspard Adam as well as their nephew Claude Michel dit Clodion, opened in Rome, Paris, Versailles or Berlin in the service of European princes like Louis XV, Louis XVI or Frederick II of Prussia. Exhibition: MBA, Nancy, France (18.09.2021 - 09.01.2022)
