Leben Lieben Leiden: Frauenbilder junger Künstlerinnen

Abstract

"Leben Lieben Leiden" brings together young female artists who work with, question and investigate historical and present-day perceptions of "femininity" as a theme or social model. The issue of a true "female aesthetic" is not the focus of these diverse female-artistic positions; much more it is to discern what happens when "femininity" becomes a category. In their 'at times' playful examinations of old and new "myths about women" and of the oft-quoted personal artistic identity, they have created new works for this project that 'sensual, humorous, thoughtful, controversial, provocative' look at attributions of "femininity", question these and decode the complex interlinking of subject and power, without producing new feminine myths.
