Abstract
"The Kaburaki Kiyokata Memorial Art Museum in Kamakura opened its doors on April 17, 1998. The artworks, documentation and other reference materials, the land, and the building were donated by the Kaburaki family to the city of Kamakura to share with future generations the life and the works of the Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artist Kaburaki Kiyokata and the place where he created many of those works. The museum researches Kaburaki Kiyokata's oeuvre and publishes the results in a series of annual publications. This catalog introduces works that were included in the first three catalogues of the collection (published in 2001 and 2002), together with works newly added to the collection. Production of this bilingual catalogue is part of a project to improve access to museums in Kamakura for visitors from other countries, which is supported by Japan's Agency of Cultural Affairs under the fiscal 2014 program to promote creative activities at art and history museums in cooperation with local communities. We are pleased to publish this catalogue to increase global awareness of Kaburaki Kiyokata and to introduce his oeuvre, including overseas exhibitions of his work."-- Foreword.
