Abstract

Jan and Hubert Van Eyck, who until now were assumed to have been born in Maaseik at the end of the 14th century, actually came from Bergeijk, just across the border above Lommel. That is the claim of the Dutch historian Dr. Lucas Van Dijck, who has written a book about the Van Eycks after years of study.
