Isabelle Arthuis: fantaisies

Abstract

Over four years, Isabelle Arthuis collaborated with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes and Maurepas residents on a photographic project for the museum’s second site, opening in February 2025. Drawing on artworks and personal histories, she developed a series of visual projects to be unveiled at the inauguration. Fantaisies reflects this approach. Rather than a catalogue, Arthuis created an artist’s book with Lendroit éditions, featuring hundreds of close-up shots of paintings from the 17th to 20th centuries. Constructed like a film, it explores textures, techniques, and chromatic rhythms, offering a striking, dreamlike journey through art history.
