Abstract
The painting 'Guernica' is seen as Picasso's contribution to the defense of peace, a lamentation against terror. The gigantic work from 1937 measures 27 square meters. Rob Hartmans writes the biography of 'Guernica': his journey around the world - it was shown in Brussels and Amsterdam in 1956 - as an indictment of every struggle, the backgrounds of the Spanish Civil War, Picasso's art and Cubism. The book ends with how the painting finally came home to Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum in 1981.
