Abstract

Architekturbild, the European Architectural Photography Prize, has been awarded on a two-yearly basis since 1995. This time the subject is 'Borders'. Whether in the sense of opening or closing, of including or excluding, or as definitions of geographical or (urban) spatial areas, borders are physically present and clearly recognizable or subtly noticeable, but always perceived as either protecting or deterring. In the context of the European Architectural Photography Prize 2017 we by no means focus on the negative interpretations of this term but rather on the photographic-artistic involvement with our built environment.
