Emile van der Kruk mainly works in wood. Because it is a living material, he can see from it how it has grown. He wrestles his sculptures with a chainsaw from the wood in an unconventional way. It produces basic and rough shapes that, except with paint, are not finished further. He does not remove traces of origin: they almost always remain visible, resulting in a sober effect?
