Abstract

"This exhibition showcases the appeal of Arita large dishes, commemorating the donation of a 100-dish collection put together by the late Segawa Takeo, a rare collector of large dishes. These dishes, the largest of which is 66 centimetres or more in diameter, have powerful appeal. These 100 large dishes, which all utilise deep, beautiful shades of blue, woo the viewer with dynamic art depicting a variety of themes that vibrantly reflect the popular customs and beliefs of their era, including the ukiyoe woodblock prints of Utamaro and Hiroshige, the 53 stations of the Tōkaidō, protagonists of traditional legends like Kintarō and Urashima Tarō, mirages, barrels of famous sake, and carp ascending waterfalls"-- Greeting (page [2]).
