Denken im Matsch: Materialismus, Akzidenz, Unfall in Kunst und Ästhetik 1921-1939

By

Abstract

"Using cases from surrealist activism, the thinking in the mud and the associated moment of accident in the context of old and new materialism is negotiated. The central figure is the French writer and philosopher Georges Bataille, whose work, it is argued, develops connection lines to the discourse of New Materialism. In a reading that takes Georges Bataille seriously as a practitioner, the rituals of the secret society Acéphale become a key moment in the history of the development of artistic research."
