Delfts wit: het is niet alles blauw dat in Delft blinkt = White Delft : not just blue

  • Alternate title

    White Delft: not just blue

Abstract

"Hand-painted blue-and-white bowls and vases can still be seen in many Dutch homes and similar pieces of Dutch delftware find a ready market among foreign tourists. Think of Dutch delftware and you think of blue-and-white. But that is not the whole picture. Over the centuries, Dutch delftware has been produced in many different guises, from plain white to brilliantly polychrome. The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag possesses one of the largest and finest collections of Dutch delftware anywhere in the world. This is the first publication ever to focus on the plain white version. It will explain the function of delftware, its place in domestic interiors in Holland, and the relationship between plain white and patterned blue delft. 'White Delft. Not just blue' will also attempt to settle the thorny issue of whether white Delft was actually made in Delft."-- On back of cover.
