Abstract
"Kristina of Sweden. The royal collections. A spectacular exhibition that thrillingly communicates, through splendid original works, the atmosphere of the Swedish court at its height. The show features, for the first time, authentic masterpieces of painting from the royal collections, from Veronese to Rembrandt, Canaletto to Tiepolo. The year was 1660: the queen, Kristina of Sweden, made her triumphant entrance in Rome. Only a few decades earlier Sweden had entered the spotlight of European culture, becoming one of the protagonists of the Baroque era. At Palazzo Ruspoli visitors can admire the splendors of the most sumptuous court of Northern Europe: portraits, furniture, clothing, bronze sculptures, armor, gold, weapons. Alongside these objects full of history and charm, the show contains masterworks of European painting of the royal collections of Sweden, from the Renaissance to the 1700s, including memorable works by Cranach and Veronese, Dosso Dossi and Boucher, Rembrandt and Canaletto, Tiepolo and Arcimboldo"-- Provided by publisher.
