An iconography of draughts: het damspel in beeld

Abstract
"Wherever a contest on the draughtboard (checkerboard), in the 13th or in the 21st century, the players experience a game in the same way. Artists caught them in paint or ink: men, women, children, seniors, playing for relaxation or absorbed in the deep game. The wealth of pictures confirms the results of historical research: in bygone days draughts (checkers) was a great board game, played from illiterate swineherd and simple worker, via citizen and soldier to nobleman and king, and, conspicuously, by many noblewomen too. Draughts (checkers) was everywhere."-- On back of cover.
