Abstract

The Hasselblad Award 2020 celebrates the influential work of Alfredo Jaar, a multidisciplinary artist with a deep political engagement and a relentless determinatio to probe and challenge the medium of photography. This book brings together some of his groundbreaking works and includes a new essay by philosopher Jacques Rancière in both English and French. Alfredo Jaar has made significant contributions to the history of photography by addressing the politics tha govern the production and circulation of images, showing us the economic and social implications embedded in the act of seeing, as well as our responsibilities as spectators of images. - Thyago Nogueira, Chair of the Hasselblad Award.
