Abstract
"For a better overall understanding of the ebbs and flows of world civilizations, especially for an appreciation as to how various cultures evolved in a comparable pattern regardless of their difference in approaches, the [National Palace Museum] has curated the present exhibition entitled The Relationship between Chinese and World Cultures to offer at-a-glance cross references from the kaleidoscope of world cultures via cross-section juxtaposition. Ancient cultures of the world, such as the Egyptian, the Mesopotamian, the Indus, the Greek, the Inca, etc., have their respective origins and unique achievements which collectively constitute mankind's civilization. It goes without saying that there are ups and downs in the course of evolution of any culture, therefore, the current exhibition emphasizes objective representation of historical facts. Where it concerns Chinese culture, every effort is made to render the presentation in the most flawless way possible; where the emphasis is on world culture, a vast body of information was consulted to ensure the comprehensiveness of the scope."-- Foreword by director.
