Cornetto

anonymous, c. 1600 - c. 1650

The cornetto is usually made of two glued wooden halves covered in leather. Similarly to the trumpet, it is played using a mouthpiece. Its sweet sound resembles the human voice. Between 1550 and 1650, the cornetto was so popular that its best players, famous violin virtuosos and celebrated singers were equally acclaimed.
