Rechts kanonslot (vuursteenslot) met messing huis en ijzeren slotmechaniek, haan en pandeksel. Voor montering op het kanon heeft het vooraan een pin en in het midden een gat voor een bout. Het pandeksel heeft een overhangende lip tot boven het zundgat. Het aftrektouw wordt naar achteren tussen twee rollen geleid.

Explanatory note

  • Vuursteensloten voor geschut werden na 1810 bij de Nederlandse Marine ingevoerd; in Amerika werden ze vanaf 1782 gebruikt en bij de Britse Royal Navy in 1790 officiëel ingevoerd. Sloten als dit werden naar Luik gestuurd om bij het gieten van het kanon de slotverhevenheid de juiste afmetingen te geven.

Entry

Right-handed gunlock (flintlock) with a brass box and iron mechanism, cock and pan cover.

For mounting, it has a pin at the forward end and a hole for a bolt in the middle. The pan is short, the pan cover has a projecting lip to the pan. The lanyard runs back between two rollers.

Flintlocks for cannon were introduced in the Dutch Navy after 1810; they had been used in the United States since 1782 and were officially adopted by the British Navy in 1790. Locks like these were sent to Liège, in order to pass on the measurements for the vent patch before casting the cannon.
