Getting started with the collection:
View of Nagasaki Bay
attributed to Antoon Bauduin, 1862 - 1866
All is calm in Nagasaki Bay. Or so it seems. The foreign ships in Nagasaki Bay were there not only to trade, but to guarantee the continuous access for foreign powers. Japan found itself cornered by countries that had established colonies all across Asia and now imposed unequal trade agreements on Japan.
