Rochette (père), 1800 - 1815

Telescope from the signal post at Weesperpoort in Amsterdam, made in Paris, c. 1810. Fully extended, this telescope is about one-and-a-half metres long. This enabled the signalman to see for a distance of almost twenty kilometres. The range of the telescopes determined the maximum distance of the optical telegraphs.

    Verrekijker van hout met koperen gedeeltes aan de uiteinden. Het uitschuifbare ooggedeelte bestaat uit vijf stukken en drie lenzen. Uit wordt vastgeschroefd aan het koperen uiteinde van de houten koker. Aan de andere kant zit één grote lens in het koperen uiteinde geschroefd, en daarop een koperen dop. Opschrift; op uitschuifbaar stuk: Télégraphie Amsterdam / No 41. Aan de binnenkant van het ooggedeelte: 79. Op de rand van de grootste lens: IV. Gesigneerd; op uitschuifbaar stuk: Rochette Père / à Paris.
