anonymous, c. 1100 - c. 1400

Dancing man with castanets. Dancing drummer. Tomb tiles. China. Yuan period (1260 - 1368), mid-13th century. Earthenware. Between c. 1100 and 1400, graves were embellished with series of these musician tiles. The tiles were produced in moulds allowing large numbers of the same kind to be made. A second example of the dancing man with castanets has been found.
