Table clock

Jan van Ceulen, c. 1700 - c. 1725

This clock not only tells the time, it also gives the date and the phases of the sun and the moon. It has a movement with nine bells that can play ten melodies. In the early 18th century a timepiece with so many different functions was still a rare and precious object.

    Tafelklok, bruin schildpad met zilveren versieringen, ook op de zijkanten, bronzen wijzerplaat, in 't midden fijn gegraveerd, in de benedenhoeken zilveren versieringen, cijferring van zilver, volledige datumaangave, bovenaan maanstand, achterplaat van het uurwerk mooi gegraveerd, slinger rechtstreeks verbonden met de lepelgang, speelwerk met negen bellen, speelt tien aria's. Getekend: J. v. Ceule le ieune, Hagae.
