Bed Cover with Chinoiserie

This cover is decorated with Chinese scenes. The emperor of China sits under a tree in the central field, encircled by a floral wreath with bows: a typically European design. He drinks wine and listens to music played by his servants and monkeys. The border of the cover is embellished with appliqué work, decorative pieces of fabric sewn on top. Similar chinoiserie also features in lacquerware and embroidery.

    Sitsen sprei. Op een linnen ondergrond is langs de rand een bloemenrand opgenaaid. Het middenveld draagt een veelkleurige bloemenkrans door strikken verbonden, waarbinnen een afbeelding van een voorname Chinees, gezeten op een rustbed met hemel. Rond de Chinees zijn muzikanten en een aap. Alle contouren zijn met kleurig koord afgezet. Bij de sprei horen vier fragmenten, mogelijk lambrekijns (?) BK-16441-B t/m BK-16441-E.
