Portrait of two samurai

attributed to Antoon Bauduin, 1862 - 1866

Heat damage from the fire left some photographs especially fragile. Left untreated, the charred edges would have steadily flaked off each time the pictures were handled, so consolidation of loose fragments and edges was essential. A special treatment restored some flexibility to the paper without altering its gloss.
