Explanatory note

  • Gachet schetste twee portretten van Van Gogh op zijn sterfbed. Een schets, opgedragen aan Theo van Gogh, bevindt zich in de collectie van het Van Gogh Museum te Amsterdam, inv.nr. D753 V/1962. De andere schets bevindt zich in de collectie van het Musée d'Orsay te Parijs, inv.nr. RF 29928. Er zijn in totaal negen staten van de prent bekend. Tevens bestaan er verschillende proefdrukken die door Dr. Gachet en diens zoon werden gedistribueerd (Zie: A. de Margerie, p. 184).
