Explanatory note

  • In 1827 werden de geschutpoorten van het onderste dek van het linieschip van 74 stukken Waterloo te Sheerness, waar zij na een storm vertimmerd werd, voorzien van dit soort lichten ter vervanging van de patrijspoorten. De bolle zijde werd naar buiten geplaatst en van binnen konden zij met een houten schuif worden afgedekt.

Glass of a round portlight, convex with a rim on one side, the flat side frosted, with a rather irregular bulb in the middle.

In 1827, lights of this type were mounted in the gun ports of the lower deck of the 74-gun ship of the line Waterloo at Sheerness, where the vessel was under repair after being damaged by a storm.1A.J.
