Firework technology was also applied in pistols, allowing them to fire signals, or shoot burning projectiles into encampments of enemy tents or ships’ sails. The inscription on the barrels freely translates as: ‘Jacob Lommers, soldier of Jülich, mathematician, engineer and pyrotechnician, conceived and made me in my entirety in the year 1744.’

  • Description

    Deel van een koppel. De slotplaat is gesigneerd en gebeiteld met een acanthusblad; de haan is versierd met een bladerrank. De achteraan getrapte loop heeft een verdikte ring in het midden en een ring bij de tromp; voorzien van een inscriptie en bovenop gestempeld met het wapen van Utrecht. De kolf bestaat enkel uit een greep, in reliëf gesneden met onder meer lofwerk. Het voorheen vergulde geelkoperen beslag met nageciseleerde krullen in reliëf bestaat uit een gehoekte trekkerbeugel, een onbewerkte duimplaat omlijst door lofwerk met Klassieke mannelijke dragers en een masker eronder, en de kolfkap met sporen uitlopend in lofwerk, versierd met acanthustakken in driehoeken rondom en een masker onderop; de schroefplaat is niet in reliëf, maar heeft dezelfde vorm als de slotplaat en is gegraveerd met een jachtscène; geen voorziening voor een laadstok.
