    • : ‘The author of the present Publication has been for a number of years (at his hours of leisure from his more immediate Professional Engage-ments) in the habit of making Etchings, not only from his own Designs, but also a few from Pictures of the old Masters generally, in his own possession. He has now collected together such a number of Studies, on Copper, as to make him hope that the advice of some friends "deeply dyed in Art" may not be erroneous, who think that they may be laid in portions, more particularly before that part fo the Public versed in the productions of the Masters of the Flemish Schools; should the Public coincide in this opinion, a further portion will be laid before them in the course of a few months, and others, as the time allotted him from his other professional pursuits will allow. From the style of etching many of the Plates, the number of Copies can be extended to very few, and at the best, should the Publication be approved of, must redound more to the credit than to the profit of the Artist; should the Public how-ever not think the Publication desirable, it may still be done to his advantage, and only make him more cheerfully descend from that most proverbially expensive of all animals - a Hobby. 58, Brook Street, Grosvenor Square.’
