Explanatory note

  • Het model stelde het nieuwe schegbeeld voor van het linieschip van 84 stukken Neptunus (lang 57.8 m, gebouwd door C. Soetermeer te Vlissingen in 1821-1835), nadat het in 1844 was herdoopt Koning der Nederlanden. Zij was de laatste driedekker van de Nederlandse Marine. In 1858 werd zij omgebouwd tot drijvende batterij van 32 stukken en weer herdoopt Neptunus; in 1876 afgevoerd.

Model of the knee of the head with part of the bowsprit, mounted on a backboard.

The figure itself is missing.

The model represented the new figurehead of the 84-gun ship of the line Neptunus (57.8 metres long, built by Cornelis Soetermeer (1782-1842) in Flushing from 1821 to 1835), after it was renamed Koning der Nederlanden in 1844.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 249. It was the last three-decker in the Dutch Navy. From 1858 to 1860 it was converted to a 32-gun floating battery and renamed Neptunus again. The ship was decommissioned in 1876.
