Constructiemodel van een kaapstander met een ijzeren kop. De trommel heeft zes klampen en twee extra klampen in twee van de spleten tussen de gewone klampen. De kop heeft zestien gaten voor windbomen; hij heeft de vorm van een spaakwiel met een kruis in het midden. De achtkantige bovenkant van de trommel heeft een kruisvormige insnede, waarin het kruis van de kop rust.

Explanatory note

  • Dit type kaapstander was voorzien van een gietijzeren kop. Hoewel A.E. Tromp zich goedkeurend over dit soort spillen uitliet, uitte C.J. Glavimans enige bedenkingen betreffende de gietproblemen en de corrosie. Het is onbekend of zij algemeen in de Marine werden ingevoerd.

Construction model of a capstan with an iron head.

The barrel has six whelps and two supplementary whelps in two of the gaps between the whelps proper. The head has sixteen holes for bars, in the shape of a spoked wheel with a cross in the centre. In the octagonal top of the barrel a cross-shaped indenture is made, in which the cross of the iron head lies.

The head of this type of capstan was made of cast iron. Although favoured by August Elize Tromp (1801-1871), problems with the casting and corrosion elicited some objections from Cornelis Jan Glavimans (1796-1857).1HNA 2.12.01 Min. Marine, Exh. 19/1/1843 N69. It is unknown whether they were generally introduced to the Dutch Navy.
