Explanatory note

  • Dit soort maatstokken werd gebruikt om de lengte van de ziel van kanonnen te meten, terwijl zij uitgeboord werden. Deze maatstok werd gebruikt bij het uitboren van ijzeren 36 ponders tot kanonnen van 60 pond te Fijenoord.

Entry

Measuring rod with a brass decimal scale on one side and a round disk at the end. The end is rounded to follow the shape of the bottom of the chamber of the gun. The decimal scale is only 100 cm long at the other end.

This measuring rod was used to measure the length of the bore of guns while they were bored out.1J.M. Obreen, Catalogus der verzameling modellen van het Departement van Marine, The Hague 1858, no. 723. They were used for the 36-pounder guns which were bored out to a 60-pounder calibre at Fijenoord in Rotterdam.
