Lidded goblet

anonymous, c. 1725 - c. 1750

The goblet is engraved with the biblical figures of King David and Jonathan. The inscription, ‘Gleyck deese twee bestaan moet onse trouwe gaan’ (Our loyalty should be like that of these two), alludes to their faithful friendship.

    Gefacetteerde, gewelfde voet. Gefacetteerde balusterstam met drie knopen. Conische kelk met massieve bodem, waarin een traanvormige luchtbel is gestoken. Op de kelk David en Jonathan in een landschap, waarboven: GLEYCK DEESE TWEE BESTAAN MEET ONSE TROUWE GAAN; daaronder: DAVID EN IONA TAM. Deksel gewelfd met twee knopen, waarvan de bovenste peervormig. Op het deksel een guirlande.
