Entry
Polychromed wooden half bracket model of the starboard side of a two-masted ship, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard.
The side of the ship is depicted by ribbands attached to frame moulds. The sheer rises towards the stern. One wale and a sheer rail are indicated, both are painted black. The bow features an empty beakhead with two cheeks. The stern has a round tuck and a hollow counter. Below the stern a straight, square-headed rudder is indicated. The hull is V-bottomed, very sharp towards the stern, and painted white below the waterline. The position of two masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form.
A remarkable feature is the almost straight and vertical stem.
The 16-gun brig Echo, 100 feet long, was built by Pieter Schuijt in 1797. Echo was the last ship to be constructed in the Navy dockyard of Harlingen. Echo was captured by the British in 1804.1HNA 1.01.47.36 Admiraliteitscolleges, Losse Aanwinsten, inv. no. 17, Genealogie Asmus.
