Guanyin

anonymous, 850 - 900

Guanyin stands on a lotus base, his left hand raised in the gesture of reassurance, and holds a vase in his right hand. He is here depicted as a male divinity. After the Tang dynasty (618-907) artists began portraying Guanyin as a female.
