Most of the implements found on Nova Zembla are carpentry and shipbuilding tools. The (surgeon’s) saw is the exception and was probably used to perform amputations.

    Spanzaag met gedraaid houten heft, spanschroef nog aanwezig, zaagblad afgebroken. De spanzaag is in de eerste plaats chirurgijnszaag die later gebruikt werd door timmerlieden. De beugelzaag is de oudst bekende omraamde zaag, dit soort zagen werd vooral door schrijnwerkers gebruikt.
